After posing for a few days to get the shot they selected. The Brooklyn-based artist Sam McKinniss set about to capture in vivid color the youthful nighttime attitudes Lorde herself wanted to project outwards.
She simply asked the artist to create, and capture a kind of colorful teenage restlessness with excitement, energy and potential. She wanted that to be put into color.
Sam McKinniss says...“It has this kind of lushness and sensitivity to light and color and touch that I bring to my portraits, so it felt like a collaboration.”
That's really the story behind the cover art to Lorde's forthcoming album Melodrama.
Lorde says the blue-lit portrait for the album cover, is all about "nighttime attitudes."
There's still no release date set for the new album that is due out in the early part of summer.
I think the color is very vivid and the pose is interesting, and I can see how it will pair well with the theme of the new album...we like it.
