New Lana Del Rey Song! - Super Movie (Official Song)

LDR Queen of the Sad Girls is Back!

The word is out, a rare and previously unreleased Lana Del Rey song has just showed up online. This unheard rarity, has your, as expected prototypical Americana flavored lyrics and the tune arrives mid-summer to give you your much needed LDR shot of melancholia.

Many are suggesting that this unheard track “Super Movie” is an early version of “On Our Way.” Between the two songs there are some lyrics that are the same, whether or not the song is an early incarnation of On Our Way is irrelevant, fans will still love it. In any case it's something new for fans while waiting on the follow up to her 2015 album Honeymoon.

My label, Interscope, is pretty flexible and open to my records coming out at any time, so I don’t have that pressure. I’m just happy to be able to keep on making music I can stand behind, that’s enough for me.” - Lana Del Rey

It is believed that she has been working on her new album on and off since March. The song leaked online is merely a bell ringing, alerting fans that the new album will soon be on the way.

New Poll 9 of 10 Native Americans Not Offended by Redskins Name

New Poll 9 of 10 Native Americans Not Offended by Redskins Name

Shining the OutRiderr Spotlight on a Washington Post article from May 19th By John Woodrow Cox, Scott Clement and Theresa Vargas.

Nine out of 10 Native Americans say they're NOT offended by the Washington Redskins name.

This new Washington Post Poll shows that the minds of Native Americans have remained unchanged since the Annenberg Public Policy Center Poll conducted in 2004.

The survey conducted across every state, reveals that the responses to The Post’s questions about the issue were consistent regardless of age, income, education, or anything else. What doesn't get talked about is that some Native Americans embrace it, and like that their identity is represented in highly visible sports.

Barbara Bruce, a Chippewa Teacher who has lived, and worked on a North Dakota reservation most of her life says...”I’m proud of being Native American and of the Redskins. I’m not ashamed of that at all. I like that name.”

She, along with many others surveyed, embrace native imagery in sports as an acknowledgment of their identity in a society where they are rarely, represented. The tragic fact here is that they are already outnumbered by Asians, Hispanics, Latinos and The Black and White. In what was once their land, it has become a melting pot of all races flourishing except for their own.

The big overall issue here is that an overwhelming majority of Native Americans do not consider the issue of the name “Redskins” very important. Most will say they don't mind it, and some will even say they like it. Native Americans will call other natives ‘Redskins’ as well.

For others, the name is nothing to them. All the attention on this topic is really trumped up rhetoric from agitators and haters. They really sunk their fangs into this issue, so much so, that they get non-Native Americans riled up, and willing to protest, demanding the team change their name.

In my opinion, the name is just a name, the depiction is not disparaging at all. It's not some silly caricature that makes fun of Native Americans.

The sad truth here is that we are in an era of out of control political-correctness. Anyone can at any time manipulate a situation to make themselves feel offended. What a pathetic waste of time.

Farrah Fawcett's Famous Swimsuit Poster – 1976

First of all, to set the record straight, everyone and their brother and all their friends of friends of friends have written about Farrah's iconic red swimsuit poster.

However, from the standpoint of revisiting good ol' 70's Americana I will address the urban legends that have left many of us wondering.

The first myth to dispel is that she used ice cubes to get the desired look. Totally false, absolute balderdash according to Bruce McBroom the photographer. As he puts it...It was all Farrah.

The second fantastic myth is that Farrah Fawcett’s hair spells out the word “SEX” in her curls. The consensus, of opinion on this one is that this story is false. The truth is that it does. I did not see it. Only later, after it was pointed out to me did I actually see it. So, yes that myth is true. You'll have to find it for yourself if you are that curious.

In my opinion, I do not think that it was done intentionally or that it was the reason for the poster's popularity. I believe this famous poster was a combination of the times and happy coincidence.

What most people don't know or remember was that Farrah was still an unknown actress when this poster was made.

The company that made this poster, had heard that many college guys were buying magazines that featured Farrah is advertisements. Learning this they thought that a poster of her would do well, and they were right.

The happy coincidence here is that this poster was made before Charlie's Angels. After her appearance on the show's pilot, people began to take notice. The timing was perfect, and she helped the pilot land a series.

England has their Tennis Girl and we have our Farrah.

It was the bright combination of her smile and those nipples that made this the eye-catching image known the world over.

There's a really good article by the photographer at this link below

Fawcett Photographer Recalls an Iconic Shoot

* The original poster dimensions were 24 x 32. The poster sold for $2.99 and almost every retailer carried it.

As of February 2nd 2011 Farrah's swimsuit is now on display at the Smithsonian Institute. It was always in her plans to donate this according to her partner Ryan O'Neal.

Garbage - Strange Little Birds - Reviewed 3½

Garbage - Alt-Rock Legends Venture Into the Dark Again With Strange Little Birds

This their sixth album is worth buying or streaming, despite it's chart performance. Very quickly I'd point out that it's a solid 3½ Stars.

Shirley Manson's harrowing vocal bleeds with sadness throughout. The band says that the album was written and recorded over a two year span. The songs deliver a signature sound of guitar-orchestration blended with industrial textures. You might even think you're revisiting the 90's while listening.

The songs are all good, and the instrumentation tightly fits with prominent vocals. The track listing is perfect in allowing some tracks to stand out more. The overall here is that this is really a good album, and a change of pace from much of the sloppy drivel getting produced these days.

Shirley Manson says: “I feel like the musical landscape of late has been incredibly happy and shiny and poppy. Everybody’s fronting all the time, dancing as fast as they can, smiling as hard as they can, working on their brand. Nobody ever says, Actually, I’m lost and I don’t have a fucking clue what I’m doing with the rest of my life and I'm frightened.”

Shirley Manson is our gloomy mysterious alt-rock diva, and here she, and her partners in time, deliver us from a sickly overly happy, poppy, pop landscape, and for this, we are grateful.

Garbage rocks...and this album lets you know loud and clear who they are, and what they're all about.

John Boehner's Name is Boner!

For years many often wondered about the correct pronunciation of John Boehner's last name. Now, there's no need to worry about that any further. Good ol' Johnny Boy corrected a reporter who accidentally called him "Mr. Camp" by telling him his name is Boner "It's Boner."

Now you know!
Here's the proof everyone's dying to see.

Niagara Falls - Honeymoon Bridge Collapse January 27, 1938

Here's an FYI Slice of Americana
Niagara Falls - Honeymoon Bridge Collapse January 27, 1938

A wind storm from Lake Erie pushed massive amounts of ice over Niagara Falls. Our friendly tour guide says that more than 90 feet of ice crushed its way through the gorge, and the pressure buckled the girders and mangled the bridge base foundations on both sides. All of the moving ice and pressure caused the bridge to collapse.

Having witnessed this ice movement with the Erie storm in prior days the imminent collapse was predicted, and the spectacle drew thousands of onlookers. This collapse made big news and was filmed for broadcast news.

According to our tour guide the bridge came down in one massive piece at 4:20 PM on January 27, 1938. He said, that the collapse made international news and that it was even filmed. From news archives the following clip was found, and posted on YouTube.
The same video is re-posted here.
The Honeymoon Bridge was also called The Upper Steel Arch Bridge and Fallsview Bridge. It crossed the Niagara River, connecting Canada with the USA, and was located about 500 feet up from the present day Rainbow Bridge.

The original video posting on YouTube was at this link
Here are some old photos of that bridge.
