There's a lot to love here. Still Corners has never made an album that disappoints anyone. Pat Metheny is a favorite of everyone. The artists mentioned here are really giving us some of their best work in years especially the new stuff from Ringo Starr, Lana Del Rey, and Crowded House.
However, the best of this so far list so far is...Allie Crow Buckley with Moonlit and Devious, and Aly & AJ with A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun, along with the new Hooverphonic album Hidden Stories and the return of Geike Arnaert.
After many weeks of new music releases that just disappoint we finally get a great new album from Natalie Imbruglia and Firebird. Then came a blast of great new stuff in the last week of October with The War On Drugs. The Doobie Brothers, Marissa Nadler, and one of the best new albums of the year from Tori Amos!
The last great new album to come out this year is definitely Voyage from ABBA. I'm still hoping for more but looking at the upcoming releases I don't see much. The end of the year is near and reissues and compilations along with holiday albums will take up the remaining few weeks of the year.
This is why you should check back often with this post because I didn't think anything significant would come out after ABBA's Voyage and I was surprised to find this gem > The Flaming Lips / Nell Smith - Where the Viaduct Looms. This album is fantastic and I hope you'll give it a listen.
To my very own surprise, I did find another great new album to add to the list and it's an all-instrumental guitar album that sounds great from Jeff Parker called Forfolks. That's probably going to be a wrap for the year. But check back as we'll be looking forward to the next year's new list starting in January.
All in all, some really good music came out this year and I hope you had the chance to check out some of my best-of list.
