Tom Petty - Highway Companion

Highway Companion is the third solo effort by Tom Petty, it was released on July 25th 2006, and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The songs are better on this record than several other of his Heartbreakers records. The strength of this album is just that, all of the songs are really solid and the musical performances are better than you might think.

The only musical weakness found here isn't worth noting and probably wouldn't even be noticeable to most, but the drum parts could have been better, in some instances they sound a little bit stiff and mechanical. The rest of the musical arrangements are all well thought out and played perfectly. Tom plays everything here and gets a little help from his friends Mike Campbell who plays brilliantly simple leads to compliment all that is Petty and also some help from Jeff Lynne on everything else.

This really is a top-notch album, and because there weren't any really big hit singles, means you won't get tired of playing this album.

You can stream the whole album from YouTube by saving the play-list.

Best tracks are..."Saving Grace" - "Flirting with Time" - "Jack"
"Turn This Car Around" - "Big Weekend" - "Night Driver" - "This Old Town"

The album was recorded during 2005-2006 at Bungalow Palace and Shoreline Recorders, Los Angeles.

The fact that this is an older album shouldn't put you off, give this one a try, and I'm sure that you'll like it.

Rock On!
