The Best Albums of 2021

Updated 12-10-2021

We are halfway through the year and this is a short post pointing you in the direction of some of the best new albums to have come out this year...so far.

There's a lot to love here. Still Corners has never made an album that disappoints anyone. Pat Metheny is a favorite of everyone. The artists mentioned here are really giving us some of their best work in years especially the new stuff from Ringo Starr, Lana Del Rey, and Crowded House.

However, the best of this so far list so far is...Allie Crow Buckley with Moonlit and Devious, and Aly & AJ with A Touch of the Beat Gets You Up on Your Feet Gets You Out and Then Into the Sun, along with the new Hooverphonic album Hidden Stories and the return of Geike Arnaert.

After many weeks of new music releases that just disappoint we finally get a great new album from Natalie Imbruglia and Firebird. Then came a blast of great new stuff in the last week of October with The War On Drugs. The Doobie Brothers, Marissa Nadler, and one of the best new albums of the year from Tori Amos!

The last great new album to come out this year is definitely Voyage from ABBA. I'm still hoping for more but looking at the upcoming releases I don't see much. The end of the year is near and reissues and compilations along with holiday albums will take up the remaining few weeks of the year.

This is why you should check back often with this post because I didn't think anything significant would come out after ABBA's Voyage and I was surprised to find this gem > The Flaming Lips / Nell Smith - Where the Viaduct Looms. This album is fantastic and I hope you'll give it a listen.

To my very own surprise, I did find another great new album to add to the list and it's an all-instrumental guitar album that sounds great from Jeff Parker called Forfolks. That's probably going to be a wrap for the year. But check back as we'll be looking forward to the next year's new list starting in January.

All in all, some really good music came out this year and I hope you had the chance to check out some of my best-of list.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year

Charity Miles: Walking & Running Distance Tracker

Charity Miles is not a registered 501c3 or any other sort of nonprofit. They are an LLC, which is a business corporation. However they also never claimed to be a charity. They only provide a platform for people who ride a bike, run or walk to earn charitable donations from sponsors for each mile.

Similar to fitness trackers, their app uses your phone's GPS to log steps and miles.

The Charity Miles app enables you to earn money for a charity while you ride a bike, run, or walk. As I’ve already mentioned, the app uses the GPS on your phone to track your activity. It donates 10 cents a mile for biking and 25 cents a mile for walking and running to charity.

They really are a legitimate organization. They do donate money to a long list of charities. They do however have a maximum donation cap per year with the money they take in. Everything before they hit this cap goes to a long list of charities that you can choose from. Everything extra is theirs. I am disappointed that The American Red Cross is not on their list.

You do need to sign up, you’ll be prompted to enter your name, email address and create a password.

The way I look at it is they are going to pay some charity from large corporate sponsorships to a charity of my choice. I figure if I’m going to walk the miles or ride a bike, then why not pick a charity and let someone pay for what you were going to do anyway. It’s all for a good cause and my family and I will use this till something better comes along.

Mohican State Park - Waterfalls and Covered Bridge

Thousands of wooded acres, rivers, streams, and waterfalls await visitors to the Mohican State Park. You’ll also find Clear Fork Gorge and Pleasant Hill Lake and Dam in the nearby areas.

While there is so much to see in the Mohican Forest, my little post really focuses on how to see both waterfalls and covered bridge the easiest possible way. With that being said the following will hopefully be of some help.

The first thing is to look up on google maps, Pleasant Hill Dam. Once you get to the Pleasant Hill Dam parking lot, you’ll of course then park your car or whatever it is you are driving. Then at the end of this parking lot, you’ll find the beginning of a hiking trail that will lead you to the Little Lyon's Falls, the Big Lyon's Falls, and finally the covered bridge. This path opening will be the first one you see at the end of the parking lot to your right. This path is rugged with lots of uphill and downhill hiking, with land erosion exposing tree roots you’ll have to cross over. It’s a tough way to go if you want to see both waterfalls and the covered bridge. Having done this I’d recommend going the route I describe next.

The route I recommend is much easier, just continue past the first trail opening you see and look for the steps down the side of Pleasant Hill Dam. Once you descend the steps to get to ground level you can continue forward to see the covered bridge. On the opposite side of the bridge, you’ll find a trail that leads you to the Big Lyon's Falls, from there you’ll have to climb some steps uphill to make your way to the Little Lyon's Falls. From here I’d simply go back the way you came. This will eliminate a lot of really rugged hiking, and make for a more pleasant experience. The only bad thing about going this route is you’ll have to climb 160 steps to get back to the top to get to the parking lot. But if you think about it, you are going to have to climb these steps no matter what. All things considered, I’d take this second route I am describing, taking the steps downhill first, it will be the easiest way to see the covered bridge and both waterfalls.

The best time to go would be the first good day after a hard rain.

This is a great place to have a little vacation. There’s boating, a full-service lodge, a large family campground with a pool, deluxe vacation cabins, and a camping area.

All of this you’ll find in Perrysville Ohio.
